Um.

While searching to find out whether Andrew Ridgeley was dead or not. I found out this about him :

Andrew obviously fights to ensure his son has a future and clean water to drink. Andrew lends his name and time to the UK charity, Surfers Against Sewage.

They have surfers, let alone surf, in England? And Andrew Ridgeley is their patron saint?

Oh dear, time for a cuppa and a good lie down.

The Blog

What do you do when you’re bored at work, want five minutes of distraction and no one is around to bother you?

You work on your blog of course.

Pt 1. The name. When I fist started this blog (inspired by years of reading Daniel) I used Blogger and named it ‘Between Coffees’ ’cause that’s what I talk about – the stuff that happens between coffees. Somehow when I outgrew Blogger and got with the the heavies (Movable Type) my name disappeared to be replaced by, well, my name.

My name is okay for me but for a blog it’s pretty bloody boring so I’ve switched back. Look up at the top of the page and everyone say welcome back to ‘Between Coffees’.

Pt 2. I also realised that I want to belong, I’m needy in that way, so I thought I’d join the Melbourne Bloggers web ring. Unfortunately I’ve suffered my first blogging rejection – the page is down.

We Won! And We Won!

Yes sports-fan, a glorious afternoon. In the driving blinding rain at the MCG the Tigers played magnificent wet weather football to pull off a comprehensive win against the drowned Dockers. Campbell got a victory for his 250th game and we proved we can win without our talls. We sang in the rain, we walked in the rain and it was good. I did, however, lose my scarf and my train ticket but if that’s the cost for a win, so be it.

On the other side of the Pacific the Canucks pulled off a 2-1 win over the Blues; we’re back in the chase and game is well and truly on. 1-1 leading to St Louis and hopes are up ’cause we’ve played better on the road than on home ice all year.

Now it’s time for a Sunday night roast with my family and a great bottle of red.

Tonight I’m a happy man.

Drive In Take 2

So a while back we got all Drive-In-Enthused and fired up, ready to go. Major problem with plan – there was nothing on worth watching. That all changed last night thanks to school holidays. A kids film, at dusk, so we packed up the car and headed off to the wilds of Coburg to the Village Drive In.

It was fantastic. A perfect mild Autumn night, windows down, the newish car speakers earning their keep, the screens had flashing lights around them, kids piled in to the back of station wagons, the ‘diner’, the playground, the great ’50s style cactus garden in front of the projection booth, pop corn down the car seats, 3 screens to keep you occupied – the total drive in experience. It was such a clear night you could even watch the flashing light ballet of planes in the distance circling to land at Tullamarine.

To top the night off we took a detour on the way home and followed the lights of the planes out to the airport. We parked in the viewing area and sat outside as massive 747’s took off directly overhead. Such massive beasts with lights blazing and engines roaring only a hundred or so metres above you. We were in awe, Phee was asleep.

Oh, the film? It was so bad McDonalds wouldn’t even do a happy meal for it.

Maudlin

I really shouldn’t have made a new play list last night. Sitting at the PC, updating one of my sites I thought I’d make me up a CD.

It ended up being quite possibly the most maudlin collection of music I have ever put together.

The list goes a little like this :

Fred Jones Pt 2 (Ben Folds)
Overkill (Collin Haye)
I Guess I Get A Little Emotional Sometimes (Paul Kelly)
Untouchable Face (Ani DiFranco)
Into My Arms (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds)
Mad World (Gary Jules – the version from Donnie Darko)
Wintercoat (Paul Kelly)
Fade In To You (Mazzy Star)
Where The Wild Roses Grow (Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue)
Run Wild (New Order)
Tender (Blur)
Adultery (Do Re Mi)

Any depressed people who want the perfect soundtrack drop me a line and I’ll send you a copy. Those damn Canucks have a lot to answer for.

Time to work on the victory collection in anticipation of game 2, or maybe the Tiges tomorrow.

Now, where did I file that copy of Happy Days Are Here Again?

The Agony Of A Long Distance ‘Nucks Fan

I’m sorry. If any of you tuned in to CKNW I can not apologise enough. There’s still time to go in the game and we are down 0-5. In footy terms it’s like being down 120 points with ten minutes to play in the final quarter.

The pain, the misery. How can they play this poorly? We were one game off winning the division title and now we’re being massacred on our home ice. Poor Tom and John have to call this game – you can hear the despair in their voices. The crowd, who were wild as the puck dropped, seem not to be there.

How can you do this ‘nucks? This year is supposed to be your year.

And to think each round of the playoffs is a best of 7 series. This may go on for three more games.

Sigh.

(And they scored again. 0-6. I can’t listen anymore)

A Richmond Prayer

Miss Jen Jen gave cause for me to write a Richmond Prayer

Here we go.

Our Richo,
Who art in the foreward line,
Richo is your name.
Thy goals will come
And game be won
At the ‘G as it is in docklands
Give us this match your many marks
And dominate the defenders
As they fail in every effort against us
And leed us to victory
And deliver as from Carlton
(For ever and ever) Amen

Sport Sport Sport

Today is ‘P’ day – playoffs start for my beloved Canucks and, assuming they keep on winning, they will keep on going until June.

Play starts at 12.30pm here so I’ve cleared my schedule and am locking myself in the office to listen to the game live on CKNW. If you’re sitting around listening to your office mates prattle on about the weather tune in – you may have no idea what’s going on but it’s as entertaining as anything you’ll ever hear. John and Tom are hockey commentators without peer.

And the new Tiger’s ad, for the game against the Dockers, should be up later on today.

And the Aussies are going to win the first test against the Windies.

So. Carn the Tiges! Go Nucks! Come Aussie, Come On!

and that’s all from the armchair.

Load Number One Gone

Today load number one has officially been lifted off my back. The Australian Rheumatology Association now has a spiffy new web site and it’s gone live (in a manner of speaking) today.

http://www.rheumatology.org.au/

All the cool stuff is behind the scenes but for those who want to know it’s all database driven and the few static pages will be altered by the ARA using Contribute. The brief was : “We have four distinct groups we want to target separately and we want them to get what they want fast.”

Let me know how I went.

Now there’s only loads two and three to go. Oh, and Nigel’s site, and Rae’s, and Marita’s and my business site is hopelessly out of date.
