Wanted : One Shopping Centre

Argh. You know it’s going to be a bad day when, amongst other things, you don’t have enough milk for breakfast, or perhaps more importantly for my coffee. The thing is that for most people this isn’t a problem, pop around to the milk bar and grab some to tide you over before shopping. Great idea but when you live on a new estate there ain’t no such thing as a milk bar which means to go and grab a quick tide-me-over is more like a military operation than a nice stroll. It involves locking up the house, getting three kids inside a car, driving to the supermarket, getting three kids out of the car, traipsing three kids through a supermarket for one container of milk, getting three kids back in to the car, driving home and then finally be I’d able to have breakfast or make a coffee. Thirty minutes minimum.

A shopping centre is being built just a few minutes walk away, but it would have to be the slowest construction of shops on record. So while I wait for them to finish I’m going to have sit here and contemplate having a black tea. As I said, it’s not going to be a good day.

Curse You (+61)3

Grrrrrrr. Looks like 3 have changed the way they display incoming phone numbers on their system. When I was with Optus they used the full number with country code (+61411 etc). When I moved to 3 they didn’t have the +61 and just started the number with 0 so I went through and changed all the phone numbers in my contacts so names would display correctly. A week ago 3 changed their message system and it looks like they changed the numbers then too so this morning I had to sit and go through my contacts again changing them all back. I really need to get a phone I can easily sync with my Google contacts. Anybody need a web site? Will work for an iPhone.

Feb Fast Update

So far so good, well and truly on the wagon still. There has been a couple of times a drink would have been nice; Rae’s birthday, a couple of stinking hot summer days and one rather stressful day that would have ended nicely with a glass of red but I haven’t relented. We’re off to dinner tonight (was meant to be a movie, but it started too late for a school night so it’s dinner instead) and it would be great to have a drink or two but it looks like lemonade and designated driver for me.

The Tigers Of Old

An article in The Sun today talking about The Tigers and their new coach. It doesn’t start well with this terrifying line :

RICHMOND’S new game plan was so alien to the players that initially some didn’t understand it.

I can see the team meeting where it was explained for the first time. “What’s that coach? You want us to kick the ball between the big sticks? Woah, hold on, that’s a lot to take in.”

Dry February

Well, the tribe has spoken and despite one scary moment where I thought I’d have to give up coffee the result is that Jen and I are off the booze for 28 days. Poor Jen, one tweet that she was considering doing it and now I’ve dragged her in to a ‘I’m high on life’ month. Even without a keg of Heineken in the fridge and some bottles of bubbly too this would be a test of will power. Still, 28 days isn’t too long and it should be better for my diet and wallet. Yeah, I’ll drink to that. Oh, that’s right…

Help Me Decide

I’m going to do the February Fast. It’s meant to be giving up alcohol for the 28 days of Feb although I think coffee would be much harder for me to do but I’m turning it over to you. I know it’s late notice so no coffee tomorrow morning to give you all time.

Let me (and Jen, sorry Jen for the lack of warning!) know below.

Ga Ga

I want to wake up to somebody different. It’s been a couple of years now and it’s time for a change, same with during the day as my daytime companion is so far away it can be a bit tricky. Yes, I need a radio station.

Rae rules the bed side radio as she is the one who has to wake up at 6 every morning. For the past couple of years it was Vega, with Dicko, Dave and Chrissie. Now the music isn’t much and I was initially very sceptical but they slowly won me over with their more serious, and interesting, discussions amongst the fluff. Then they went and sacked Chrissie in a classic case of false economy. Now it’s just two boys trying too hard. Before Vega it had always been 774 but Red Symons’ smugness became too tiring and as long as he’s on we won’t venture back.

So now we’re stuck without a morning station. During the day I have BBC6 – the perfect radio station but that depends upon me having access to the net. Perfect music, great documentaries, announcers who know and love their music (G’day Chris). It’s handy when I’m working, or I can have it stream through my iPod Touch and there’s enough PCs dotted around to have it in most rooms but I can’t have it in the car and it’s a bit of a drag turning on a PC just to listen to radio.

I’ve tried JJJ but I think I’ve reached the age where it’s just not that relevant for me any more. 6 Music is like JJJ was when it first started, maybe that’s why I love it so much. Commercial stations music ain’t my cup of tea either so I may have to give RRR a go, or maybe just switch to being a news junkie and Radio National.

Who do you wake up with and should we share?
