Another Recommendation

I’ve a pretty good track record over the past year when it comes to ‘finding’ television shows before they air here. Lost, the first season of Desperate Housewives, Carnivale, Rome, Veronica Mars and the magnificent Deadwood. Now that’s not too bad a list so trust me when I tell you that you have to watch Life On Mars when/if it screens on the ABC. It’s a bit tricky to describe so here’s what the site has to say :

Sam Tyler [is] a driven and ambitious young detective, determined to keep the streets of 21st Century Manchester safe. But after a near fatal car accident, he wakes up, dazed and confused, in 1973. Has he gone back in time? Is he in a coma? Or has he simply gone insane?

Even that doesn’t do it justice, just trust me.

Succumbed

After a year and a half of resistance we have finally succumbed. The siren song of Fox Footy Channel became too alluring and we have dashed ourselves upon its rocks. Its very expensive rocks.

What tune did they sing? The “The only way to see the Tigers play in Adelaide this weekend is on Fox Footy Channel’ song. Yep – there is no free to air broadcast of the game on any media in Melbourne so it was either head to a pub or cough up $75 so we can watch it at home. Beer is cheaper at home and I can yell at Phee to get out of the road without fear of her turning around and decking me, so we went with option 2.

I call Telstra and eventually get through to Brenda.

B : “Let me just calculate your discount and let you know how much it will be.”

Me : &ltQuick mental caluculation of 5% off 75&gt “$71.25”

B : “Now that’s 75 and…”

Me : “It’s $71.25”

B : “…with 5% disciount.”

Me : “It’s $71.25”

B : “Let me jut get my caculator sir.”

Me : “It’s $71.25”

B: &lttap tap tap mutter mutter&gt “..and 75”

Me : “It’s $71.25”

B : “That comes to $71.25 sir.”

Sure, we get the two channels for the rest of the year but I still hate the thought of having to pay watch a game on telly.

Blake’s 7

The LiberatorI just discovered that UK TV on Foxtel are broadcasting Blake’s 7 at midnight on Tuesday’s and Thursdays. This is a slice of late 70’s Sci Fi heaven and it’s also the only thing my office mate and I have in common. Now he’s spitting the dummy ’cause he’s too tight to get cable. I’m just giving a little Avon-like grin.

If only they’d play it at 7.30 on a Friday night over summer like the ABC did when I was a lad, then it would perfect.

Buffathon

Excitement building in the house. Tonight it’s the final episodes of Buffy for the year. Season 6 is drawing to a close so we’re making a night of it. There was an episode yesterday so we taped that to add to the plan.

The plan? Yep – it’s a mini buffathon. Three hours of Buffy, pizza and champagne. Tuesday night decadence. We’ve invited Marita over to watch the equal best show (Law and Order, if you were wondering) on air on a proper sized television. Don’t bother ringing and don’t bother expecting any work to be done tomorrow – this is as good as it gets.
