Guilting (Or Waking)The Neigbours

The tiny bit of rain we had a week or so ago turned the dirt of the front yard in to a jungle. Thomas loved it, channeling his inner tiger he could stalk through the blades or find a sunny spot on the edge and pretend he was king of the world.

This morning I decided enough was enough and got out about 10.00 to mow the lawns. No edging or weeding but they looked 100% better by the time I was done. A quick shower then we all trundled off to The Coat for a late morning coffee.

When we got back the neighbours either side had mown their lawns too. What power I wield in this neighbourhood.

A Cunning Plan

Of all the weeks, they try to get me when my resistance is at an all time low.

It started many years ago now. I had met this wonderful woman, things were going really well. There was one problem though, her football team, The Western Bulldogs, were in dire financial straits and things were looking bad for them. This made her sad and I don’t like to see her sad so I thought I’d do my part by buying a basic membership to support them, and her.

Many years later that wonderful woman is my wonderful wife and I still get a basic membership for the Dogs each year, on top of my Tiger membership of course. This year I dropped down to a ‘Kennel Club’ membership, basically a stay at home supporter, as I would stay home with Bert while Rae went to games with Phee.

Of course the whole world knows about the humiliation my Tigers suffered last weekend; going down to Geelong by a record margin of 157 points. We still haven’t won a game so being a Tiger supporter is tough work this year, and has been especially so over the past 4 days.

This afternoon I get a phone call. It’s from the Doggies. Apparently I have been randomly selected as the winner of 4 Gold Reserve seats to the game this Sunday. Free seats, level 2 at Telstra Dome. That’s impressive.

If I was a weaker man they may have got me for good instead of just this one game.

Go The Dogs!

My First

Beth, I can help you.

Watching Beth on Rockwiz tonight I was surprised to hear her first concert – Big Pig, I’m Talking and a couple of other bands she couldn’t remember at the tennis centre, now Rod Laver Arena. Well Beth it pains me to say that I can tell you the other two bands were Johnny Diesel &The Injectors and Ice House. I will never forget one girl holding up a sign saying ‘Iva Davies You Are My Obsession’. We only went to see Big Pig and high tailed it out of there before Iva made it on stage. You may have seen me – I would have been wearing faded jeans, a white t-shirt and fawn coloured jacket. Oh, the 80s, what crimes we did commit. (Marita, no comments from you!)

I guess as Beth shared hers with the nation I should at least share mine with both of my readers.

My nana took me to see Slim Dusty at the Shepparton Civic Centre. I must have been about 10. The concert would probably have been called something like ‘Slim Dusty and Friends’ though because I can remember feeling distinctly jibbed at the end of the show when, after (what seemed like) hours of sitting on those rickety fold down green seats listening to his wife, children, friends, relations and some guy he may have picked up at the last truck stop, the great man himself only performed a few songs at the end of the night. Still, my lovely nana brought me a copy of ‘Walk A Country Mile’ on tape and a signed pic. I also remember walking home on a cold Shepparton night and that I got to stay at her place, which was always a treat. Not as cool as Big Pig (although cooler than Ice House) but I wouldn’t swap the memory for anything.

Joker On Kings Way

Driving to work this morning I was almost side swiped by a silver convertible that seemed intent on passing a bus as we swung around the Kings Way off ramp.

As I pulled up at the lights at the bottom of the ramp I noticed the car pull up. Its door flew open and Mr Finger Pointing jumped out and raced to the bus and let fly. I could hear him over the podcast I was listening to. He yelled all the way back to the his car and then turned and started yelling at the people who began to honk him when the light turned green and he was still out of his car.

If this guy is a boss of anyone I feel sorry for his employees, they’re not going to be in for a good day today.

Again

Today’s wireless post is brought to you from the front step.

 From The Front Step

Even though we have a backyard it’s just lovely out here today. Nice shade from the trees, peace and quiet in the neighbourhood and it seems the freight trains are observing an ANZAC Day holiday too. Thomas is curled up in the sun, the grass isn’t quite long enough to need mowing (at least until the weekend) and we shouted ourselves the extravagance of breakfast out.

It’s such a shame that it’s back to the real world tomorrow.

Crumply Not Alone

I took a stroll this afternoon to meet Phee on her walk home from school. As is my want I was looking the houses along the way and being a gloriously sunny autumn day many had their bedroom blinds and windows thrown wide open.

I am happy to report that we are not alone in just chucking the doona back on the bed and hoping no one comes walking along looking in the window. And to those at #5; great bed set but not really practical with that black cat.

Look Ma, No Wires (And A Latte)

This is the life. Steak sandwich, wonderful latte’s and wireless for all. Yep, The Famous Blue Raincoat now offers wireless access so I may never have to work in an office again. If I can keep my latte bill less than my travel expenses to and fro I may never leave this couch.

And just to prove what a geek I am here’s a photo I just took with my phone, sent to Flickr and put in here. Just ’cause I can.
