And So The Agony Begins

It’s going to be a long, long footy season.

Richmond were totally outclassed and outplayed last night in one of the more pathetic performances I’ve seen them put on. I even had to create a new word to fully express how abysmal they were.

Last night Richmond’s woefullosity levels were so high it’s difficult to see them recovering for a few seasons yet.

Canadians Win Some, Lose Some

First, the win some. My beloved Canucks staged a once-in-a-season comeback yesterday. Trailing 0-3 with fifteens minutes to play Naslund scored the tie with 30 seconds left. I jumped out of my chair in the office, screaming like a mad man. If you’ve got nothing better to do (and lets face it, if you’re reading my blog you really haven’t, be honest now) check out the final period on CKNW (skip the first 15 minutes, it’s just the break between 2nd and 3rd periods). You can then go and hear the O/T where we score the winning goal. It was one of those amazing games, the sort you listen to 80 in a season to find.

Now for the lose some.

Canada were bundled out for a world record low of 36 by Sri Lanka in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Ouch.

Damn Nucks

There was a hockey game yesterday, Canucks v Flames. I was busy doing work and napping in the afternoon (it was a long week, lay off) so went out of my way not to find out the scores when I logged in late afternoon.

Got to work, ignored all the hockey sites I normally visit and was just about to go to CKNW to listen to the archive of the game feeling good about not knowing who won when I glanced at my mail.

Last mail in, subject line : Canucks 2 Flames 2.

Yesterday the Canucks decided to start their post game review email service.

3-1

It’s not much but we’ll take it. A win over England in the first game we’ve played against them on their home soil. Sure, England paid us no respect by splitting their team in to A and B levels at half time, but we still outscored their A side 2-0.

The Socceroos have many years to go before they will be taken seriously but it feels good, even if no one here knows what the offside rule is.

New Canucks Site

Canucks.com has been given a complete makeover and it looks great! I was just commenting the other day that the Canucks had one of the worst sites in the NHL – cumbersome, difficult to navigate, pages too long to download and nothing to see on the front page (yep, they had a splash page – but all these things were all the rage way back in 2001 when they launched the site).

Now it’s quick to load, there’s no splash screen, the information is easy to find and it looks pretty cool.

I wonder if it’s in preparation for the Stanley Cup?

Going Once…

As I was growing up my football idol was Kevin Sheedy and he wore the number 10. To this day my uncle Ellis still calls me ‘Sheeds’.

The Tigers are having a silent auction of the player training tops from last year and I’ve just placed my bid for #10. Sure, Greg Stafford ain’t no Sheeds but to get an original #10 from Tigerland – priceless!

80’s Musical Act To Rescue English Cricket

I just misread an article online and thought that The Pointer Sisters were batting for Australia (sorry Ricky Ponting) and then I got to thinking…

seeing as Australia are (at this moment) only 14 runs behind England’s first innings tally, with 8 wickets in hand and 2.5 days to play maybe England could call up the Pointer Sisters. I’m sure they’d put in just as good an effort. If they’re not available maybe Bucks Fizz could have a crack. I hear that Sheena Easton bowls a mean off break.

I wonder of Nasser Hussain will be brave enough to set foot on English soil once again. Maybe he will have to hand back his OBE.
