Elvis

It’s 25 year since Elvis’ rather ignominious death. Now I’ve never been a great Elvis fan but my beloved is so I think on this day we should unveil an international day of importance.

From hereon let August 16 be known as ‘The International Day for 7-11 Attendants and Burger Flippers’

The Biro That Broke The Camels Back

I’d had enough. Every pen I ever had here has disappeared and this morning my trusty blue biro that I’d nursed through almost a year was gone. Stolen, from right here at my desk. Now that was the final straw (and biro)

Lunch time today I went down the street and purchased a spiffy new pen and pencil set. I then marched on up to the guy in the shopping centre and had my initials engraved on them. So pen thieves, unless your initials are AWM your days in this office are numbered.

The Greatests Girl In The World

Yep, that’d be my Rae. Yesterday she brings me home a present – a Richmond jumper! I haven’t had one since I was 10 and this sleeveless version does illustrate what wimpy arms I have but I’m so happy. I’m wearing it Friday night come hell or high water.

All together now –

“Oh, we’re from Tigeland,
the fighting fury…”

A Blogging Great Huff

The Age carried an article on Melbourne Bloggers today and I’m not happy. They ignored me! Okay, so I’m not on any Melbourne Blog listing, and I seldom mention where I live, and I didn’t go to the meet up session for Melbourne Bloggers but still, what do they want from me?

My name is Tony.
I’m from Melbourne, and I blog.

About A Boy

Quick Review : A major charm offencive wins on all fronts, especially for Hugh Grant.
No So Quick Review : Another Nick Hornsby book turned into another charming film. About A Boy is cleverly made to have you leaving the cinema humming along with a smile on your face.

Hoyts High Point, Cinema 6, No seat numbers

It had been a month since I’d been to a movie and even though we watched Fight Club on DVD last night (god bless home cinema and surround sound) it was great to go to a cinema. It was a Hoyts cinema which just reinforced why I will go out of my way to always go to Village but it was worth the over priced drinks ($4.10 for a bottle of water!), lack of cleaning and uncomfortable seats to see this film.

It’s a wonderful story of a man whose self centred life is slowly turned around by a lonely boy. The humour isn’t forced, the changes take time, the story is interesting and Hugh Grant is superb. You’ll love this film, no matter who you are. Go and see it.

Can’t let the music go by without a mention either. Badly Drawn Boy‘s soundtrack will be great cafe music for years to come.

Newport, Sunday Morning

We went for a walk this morning. Along the way we saw :

The Substation
The Newport Substation. A long abandoned sub-station that will soon hopefully be turned into a gallery and work place for local artists. Of course, this day in age art needs to pay so there will be the ubiquitous ‘cafe and function areas’.

Clothing
I’m not sure what’s going on here but on a path cutting by the local station someone had hung these clothes over a pipe.

Kleenamatic
I had to wonder how long this sign has been here. ‘Kleenamatic’ – surely it’s been around since the 50’s/60’s. You just don’t groovy words like this any more.

Tigerland

I’ve followed my beloved Tigers through thick and thin for all 32 of my years but I’d never done before what I did today. I went to see them train. With the indulgence of my beloved we sat there for half an hour and watched the boys go through their paces, along with about fifty others – including one guy who looked suspicously like he’d slipped out of the office for a quick squiz.

News for tomorrow is they look good. Go Tiges!

My Great Nephew

Well, this is my 200th post so let’s make it a special one.

Today we went to visit my new great nephew, William. We only planned to stay for ten or so minutes but the little man was so adorable we stayed for two hours. I even got to nurse him (once Jude gave him up!).

Welcome to the world William, may your life be long, happy and successful.
