Narelle Richards
I had reason to be looking through a box of old memories tonight and found this, an related memory from a very long time ago. My first every girlfriend. I think this photo though was taken some time in the late ’80s.
Narelle Richards – where ever you are – I hope life is good.
Doctor Who
Peter Davison was my favourite Dr.
Stuff
My takeover by MIS continues unabated – I now have a title. Say hello to the new ‘Web Officer’. Woo Hoo. New name badge, new cards. The excitement never stops. Apparently a job description is in the works too, after two years of doing the job I may be in for a shock.
“The Web Officer is responsible for watering all indoor plants located in the basement area of central block.”
At last the mystery of why they are all dead may be revealed.
Still no sign of me getting a window.
My Wonderful Girl
I forgot to mention that when the whole PC fiasco started my wonderful girl Phee (with a little help from her mum) gave me a Richmond stubby holder to cheer me up.
It worked.
Suicidal Windows
The unthinkable has happened – I survived a weekend without a PC. Yep, my new PC committed suicide early Saturday morning when Windows apparently deleted the very files it needed to start. All I could hear was the floppy drive whirring and a forlorn beep every five seconds. After (yet another) trip to Box Hill I returned home, safe in the knowledge Old Unreliable would still be there.
Well it was but it had gone out in sympathy and refused to acknowledge that there was a modem present. So, from Saturday afternoon until 7.45 this morning I had no computer – possibly the longest I have ever gone without checking my email.
At least Rae and Phee now know what I look like.
That’s Ma Boys
Canucks first game of the season was a 3-0 shutout of the Flames. The first time in their 33 year history that they have started the season with a shutout.
Go Nucks!
Go ‘nucks
YES! After a month and a half of no team to support today is the day my beloved Canucks play their first game of the 2002-2003 season.
In other hockey news I’ve got the job of developing the Melbourne Ice Hockey Team’s web site. It’s been my dream to get to do a hockey teams site and if I can get the images I want then I reckon I can do my dream justice.
So, Go Canucks! I’m rooting for you. (Australian’s stop sniggering – I was being North American for a second)
Phee Asks One Of The Biggies
Just the night Rae’s at work….
Phee and I are watching The Simpsons. As is the norm there’s an ad break, one that features a funny little promo for The King Of Queens.
The aforementioned King and his wife are looking through a newspaper. Ms King asks “..so are there any of these women you wouldn’t have sex with?”.
Then a little six year old voice pops up.
“What’s sex mean?”
My shocked brain comes up with “…it’s when he says hello to someone”. I know, it’s ridiculous but she trotted off happy. So, it probably wasn’t the world’s greatest response but I was caught unprepared. Very unprepared. Next time I’ll be ready. I’ll be able to say “go ask your mother”.
PC Highs and Lows
Well I know you are all on the edge of your seats wanting to know about my new PC. I must say it is beautiful; fast, powerful, lovely to look at and full of wonderful features. Everything a middle age man could want in sports car. (I wonder if this a geek’s version of an almost midlife crisis?)
However.
My modem doesn’t work. I’m still saving up for a modem to get a permanent connection which will solve all my problems but until then it looks like I’m stuck at 36kbs. And that’s slow.
My printer may not work. I haven’t plugged it in yet to test it and the workaround seems a little tricky, not the least because most of it seems to be in German.
Personal Web Server is not included either (you need to purchase the ‘Professional‘ edition of XP for that). There’s a workaround for this too and thankfully this ones all in English.
So, a home network to set up (we’re keeping my old PC for Rae to use in her studies), all my files to copy over and two workarounds to implement. There goes my weekend.
