Hello world!
Well… and 7 weeks later….
Hello. And who am I? Yes, exactly. Who the heck am I. It feels like an age since I’ve written on this thing and that feeling may actually be the truth; I haven’t gone and looked for my last post, but I daresay it was way longer than just 7 weeks ago.
So they hit the 7 weeks of age mark tomorrow and what have we done? If the truth be known, we’ve done a lot and we’ve done very little. Mostly they eat, poop and sleep. As expected. But they are also hitting a bit of a routine and I’m getting used to knowing if I am to expect them to wake early for the next feed, or if they will sleep well during this period, and the like.
They are still small enough to fit in your pocket, albeit a rather large pocket, but they are both gaining weight well and sleeping well and seem to be getting bigger. She’s around 4.2kg and he’s up to 3.7kg, so they’ve both gained over a kg since birth. He’s still trailing by the half kg difference that was at birth, but you can definitely see the difference. They are both long now, instead of squished and crumpled up, and I’m starting to put them in clothing other than jumpsuits, though jumpsuits are the bestest thing ever created and I wish I had several for myself. Positive side of me is I’ve managed to shower and dress before midday each day so far. So far anyway.
We’ve left the house a couple times and it hasn’t been as difficult as expected. Mind, I am home for each of the feeds, as it’s a little exposing to breastfeed two kids at once - at least with feeding one baby you can cover up and walk and such. With two at the same time you have to sit and let it all hang out. Literally.
On the whole we’re doing ok. I’m obviously not writing here much at all, but will try to every now and then. More updates are available on Tony’s flickr account, as it’s faster to take a pic, upload and wander off, then to put together words that make sense and be able to concentrate while typing with babies crying, Bert asking for a book to be read, Phee with another inane question or Tony with normal adult conversation.
Speaking of which, there goes one of them. No, before you ask, I can’t quite tell which is which on the monitor and I’m constantly amazed to find it’s the other one when I walk into their bedroom to shove the dummy in. So with it nearly feedtime, I’ve got to go get ready. I’m so lucky to have Tony home with me on the weekends and evenings, and feel for those with twins and doing most of it on their own, or with a partner who doesn’t help. I’d go mad without him!
Bye world! Hope to catch up with you again soon.

From what Tony has written about you on his blog and how healthly the whole family look on the Flickr account it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job. As an outsider looking in, I see you and your family as an inspiration.
Keep up the good work and I hope to meet you guys one day!

Rae, It sounds like you and the family are doing remarkably well. Hopefully we’ll get to catch up with everybody on GF Day and marvel at how everybody is going. By that stage Karen will be 36 weeks. And we’ll be able to compare people movers too!

Sounds like you are doing the job of a superstar! Your kids couldn’t ask for a better mum, from the looks of things!
