Ugly undies

I just spent $30 on underwear. And not just any underwear. These are 4 pairs of ugly undies. Yunno, like the ones your Nana wears.

Why, I can hear you ask. Why would you do that to yourself?

Well, according to last nights class, after giving birth you should wear undies that come halfway up your body (ie no hipsters there) and have full briefs under your body to fully support you.

So I guess it wasn’t a complete waste of $30. Though I saw a gorgeous pair of pink, sheer fabric-ed knickers, with rows of black frills across the bum that I would much preferred to spend my hard earned money on. No doubt Tony would have appreciated these ones more too. And I would have been able to afford only one of those in comparison to 4 pairs of the ugly ones.

But I guess in August, I’ll be thankful for the uglies.

Is it for back support? I never heard of the granny undies theory but after I gave birth, I had some back pain. The physio gave (well, sold) me a velcroed, elastic thingy that wraps around my torso. I still wear it occasionally and it does help. (Back in Mum’s day, they used to tie a long piece of cloth around their waists - I guess elastic and velcro weren’t popular then.) You can wear sexy undies with the elastic thingy but you can’t really wear them under anything body hugging.

I also have an unscientifically proven theory that wearing the elastic/granny undies/cloth thingy helps get your tummy back to its normal size. Which can only be a good thing!

I would like to give you advice on why. But instead I will say this. I find these undies sexy.

So I am retarded, sue me.

Kat, we were told the uglies help pull the belly in and support the amount of padding you wear for “down there”. I figure anything is worth a try. I’ll pack my regular knickers, just in case these ones prove too uncomfy.

Ike, noooo… nobody but granny likes these knickers!

Ahh, grandma knickers… I realised resistance was useless about 8 months into my pregnancy when my belly was so big that all my hipster knickers started to kind of “ping” off my belly into a rolled up bunch… I decided that before they inadvertently ended up falling right down, I needed to bite the bullet and invest in a few pairs of the billowing grandma knickers.

And then it turned out that I had a caesarean, so I couldn’t wear anything that had elastic across my wound.

And, err, they were kind of comfy… ;-)
