Taking The P***, Or Not

It began yesterday afternoon when Rae got home. She had been trying to pee for most of the day but couldn’t. A quick call to her obstetrician had her heading off to local GP who promptly sent her home with a test for the following morning.

Thankfully the obstetrician called back later to see how she was, and the answer was not good. He gave her some suggestions to try and if they didn’t work she was to go to an emergency department for relief. Well, the suggestions didn’t work. Rae normally has to be dragged kicking and screaming to a doctor, no matter how ill she is so, when I suggested we head off to emergency and she said ‘yep’ straight away I knew she wasn’t good. We made a quick call to Nana to come look after Phee and left as soon as she turned up.

She was seen by her obstetrician in emergency about 11:00pm and it turns out she has a retroverted uterus that was pinching off the bladder so the two and a half litres of water she had drank that day were sitting inside her and had absolutely no way of getting out.

The nursing staff did what has be to done under these circumstances (gory details omitted) and she was a very happy and relieved girl. I left at 3:00am (freeways are great to drive on when you are the only car on the road) and Rae was admitted to a ward at 5:00. She’s in there until tomorrow when, if she can prove she can pee, she will be allowed home to start praying that this doesn’t happen again! Everything is fine, she’s feeling great and as we were told ‘the baby has no idea any of this is going on’.

At least Rae’s got to check out the hospital in advance.
