Cravings

Cravings are funny things. When you are pregnant, you want so many funny different combinations of food. I can’t remember craving anything when I was pregnant with Phee. I do recall having a bread product in the morning to ward off the morning sickness feeling, but nothing in particular. I’d just visit the bakery before work, purchase whatever I felt like that day and be done with it.

I’ve heard of women craving odd combinations - the traditional pickles and ice cream comes to mind. That’d probably just make me feel ill! I know the sound of it does…

Funny thing is, we all have cravings regardless if we’re pregnant or not. I go through phases of chocolate cravings and have discovered if I avoid it, I don’t miss it, but if I have a little, I then want it for days.

On Friday night I went on a shopping tour. One of the stops was an Ernest Hillier store. I bought white chocolate covered red liquorice for Tony, milk chocolate covered raspberries for Tony and Phee, peppermint truffle bars for me and a bag of chocolate covered aniseed rings for eating while on the bus (it’s tiring work, this shopping gig) On Saturday morning I opened the white chocolate covered raspberry liquorice and left it in a bowl on the kitchen counter. That disappeared, so then I opened the raspberries. I don’t think there was any of those left at the end of the day.

Later than night we had a drink of warm milk, and I had some Cadbury triple decker caramel from the pantry with it. Tony had a square, maybe two. I had about 6.

I have to stop. I seem to be fine without it, but once I have a little, I want a lot, and that’s not a very good thing at all. The dieting without really dieting seems to be working; my trousers seem to be fitting better. With all the chocolate from the weekend, the opposite will begin to happen…. And I don’t want that!

Of course, the minute I think ‘no more chocolate’, then I’ll want more. I just have to ride out the cravings….

I think the best solution is moderation as hard as it is. I work with a group of girls that eat all low fat no taste stuff for lunch and then spend all afternoon picking at the lollie jar. As long as your pants fit chocolate is good.
